MCCC Minutes

July 16, 2009

7-8 p.m.

Mineral County Extension Office in Superior

Those present: Dixie Hendershot, Sue McLees, Mary Jo Berry, Anita Bailey, George Bailey

1. Report from the Lookout Pass Hiawatha trail ride – George reported that 4 Chamber members took advantage of the free Hiawatha Trail admission & shuttle bus passes on June 28. Since that date conflicted with another community event, Mary Jo had contacted Phil Edholm of Lookout Pass to see if it could be offered again, to Chamber members and their families, maybe in August. It was suggested to have a pot luck at the end of the ride.

2. Report on the MCCC Golf Tournament – Mary Jo reported that 8 teams participated on June 27, there were 17 hole sponsors, and numerous businesses donated very generous prizes, including cash. Teams and hole sponsors will receive a Certificate of Appreciation; a ‘Thank You’ ad will be put in the Mineral Independent for the prize donors. There was a nice BBQ lunch (it was noted that the beans were especially delicious) at the conclusion of the golf. Next year’s plan is to avoid conflicts with other area golf tournaments.

3. Election of officers – President: George Bailey

Vice-President: vacant

Secretary: Anita Bailey

Treasurer: Guy Gould

The term of office is for the remainder of 2009.

4. Discussion and action on the EPA TAG grant – It was voted to write a letter-of-intent for the grant to fund a Community Coordinator position, which will help the community stay informed about EPA Superfund Cleanup site. George will write the letter of intent and Mary Jo agreed to serve as the Community Coordinator if the grant is received.

5. Scheduling of program for chamber meetings – It was decided that each future Chamber meeting would include a 15-20 minute program, with a guest &/or member presenting information on a specific topic. Sue McLees & Carol Johnson will present at the August 20 meeting, giving information on the 1910 Fire and the planned activities for the 100-year commemoration in 2010. They’ll also give ideas on how the Chamber can participate.

George will organize the programs for future meetings, and welcomes ideas from Chamber members. It was suggested to ask Glenda Wallace, the webmaster of the Chamber’s website to present at a future meeting, letting us know what she does, what she can do, and what her ideas are.

Mary Jo suggested that Chamber support an “after-hours” open house for businesses. George will check into this.

6. Report on Chamber membership – Anita reported that a total of 6 businesses have paid dues for 2009. Two more applications were handed in at the meeting. Anita & Mary Jo will get together and update the Chamber contact list. We will continue to encourage area businesses to join.

7. Other

1. Liability Insurance – The Chamber’s practice of providing event insurance for community events was questioned and discussed. It was suggested that this could be a program topic for a future meeting.

2. Sue announced that the Historical Society meets the 2nd Tuesday each month at 7:00 at the Extension Office, and invited Chamber members to attend.

3. Minutes from the last meeting, June 18, 2009, were read and approved.
