Also our SPECIAL SPEAKER is Racene Friede from Glacier Country, with information on what Glacier Country does, including travel trends, what’s new in marketing, tourism, etc. She is also hoping to recruit an additional board member from Mineral County. Chamber meeting is held at the Chamber Office, 102 River St., Superior.

KPAX TV – MISSOULA”S CBS-TV Affiliate Station, will be in Superior the week of June 24. They’re profiling the fun and positive stories found in the heart of Mineral County as we’re preparing for the Relay for Life event on June 28th. These stories will be featured on KPAX TV’s program Montana this Morning, and the 5:30 p.m. & 10:00 p.m. newscasts throughout the week. KPAX weather & sports segments will be broadcast live from Superior one night that on the 5:30 p.m. news.

NEW “WRONG WAY” SIGNS FOR INTERSTATE in Four Counties

Montana Dept of Transportation (MDT) proposes an Interstate wrong-way signing upgrade project for four counties within the MDT Missoula District. Missoula District- The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to notify the public and seek comments on a proposal to upgrade Interstate off- ramp signing and pavement markings at all interchanges to reduce the potential for wrong-way entry onto the freeway facility within the MDT Missoula District. The project is located on Interstate 90 within these counties: Mineral, Missoula, Granite, and Powell counties.

The purpose of the project is to improve the safety of the roadway for the traveling public.

Construction of the improvements is scheduled to begin in 2013, depending on completion of design and availability of funding.

No new right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.

Fresh Air, Tunnels & Family Thrills on the Hiawatha Bike Trail

The Route of The Hiawatha is open daily for the 2013 summer season. This internationally acclaimed 15 mile “rail-to-trail” mountain bike or hike trail utilizes the abandoned Milwaukee Railroad grade between the old town site of Taft (MT) and the North Fork of the St. Joe River near Avery (ID). The St. Paul Pass Tunnel is 1.7 miles in length and is one of the highlights of a trail that has been described as one of the most scenic stretches of railroad country. The Hiawatha includes 10 tunnels and 7 trestles as high as 230 ft. The trail is considered the “crown jewel” of all rail-to-trail projects in the country and delivers a one-of-a-kind adventure for riders from around the world. The gentle 1.6% average grade drops 1,000 feet over the 15 miles length with shuttle buses available to transport you and your bike back to the top. Trail passes, shuttle tickets and mountain bike rentals are available at Lookout Pass Ski Area located adjacent to I-90 at the Idaho/Montana border 12 miles east of Historic Wallace, Idaho.
