Nearly 1 in 5 women (1 in 71 men) in the US have been raped, according to a 2010 CDC&P Study. Ten percent of violent deaths in the US are attributable to strangulation. The fatality risk of strangulation is very high, but it is often misunderstood or misidentified as something far less serious.
Professionals such as 911 Operators, Prosecutors, law enforcement officers, courts, doctors, EMTs and legislators must adequately respond and intervene. To help, the Mineral County Healthy Relationships Project and the Mineral County Helpline are sponsoring a free workshop on Sexual Assault & Strangulation: Identification and Response on Tuesday, Oct 13th, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Commissioners Room in the Mineral County Montana Courthouse.
