Speaker will be Jim Arney, a St. Regis resident working in long-term forestry planning, who’s served on the Superior Ranger District Resource Advisory Committee and the St. Regis Resort Board, as well as other community boards.
Don’t MISS our May 17th Meeting as Jim will be sharing his ideas on Mineral County Economic Growth Opportunities.

RIBBON Cutting for Hospital Biomass Heating; the Antique Car Show; the Chamber Golf Tournament and Yellow Pages Directory, Renewing Memberships…read the highlights of the April Chamber of Commerce Meeting. WE NEED YOU at our next Meeting: *Thursday, May 17* | Here are the highlights from the April meeting:
Meeting highlights of April 19, 2012: (detailed minutes to follow)
–Minutes, Treasurer’s Report read & approved, Bills presented and approved
–George Bailey, Director of Business Development at Mineral Community
Hospital, gave information on upcoming hospital developments & improvements:
–April 25 ribbon cutting ceremony for new Biomass Heating System, a
cleaner more efficient system
–The hospital is in the final approval stage for a grant that will
establish a Community Health Center, which will help provide better
preventive care for low-income patients
–Fundraising continues for building a new hospital. Plans for the
existing hospital include making it a training center for careers in the
health field.
–Chamber Golf Tournament is scheduled for August 25
–The Chamber Office will be the site of several upcoming seminars, more
details to follow
–Yellow Pages Business Directory committee will be meeting soon to make
plans for the next Directory.
–Sign near hospital: Information from DOT states that the sign can be
redone. Chamber is waiting for a quote on the cost of redoing the sign,
and then will decide on how to proceed.
–Superior Car Show was added to the list of Chamber committees.
–Travel Expo at Southgate Mall on March 17 was a big success. Chamber,
along with several other Mineral County groups, sponsored a Mineral County
booth.
–Membership: 59 business members for 2012
–Some future Chamber meetings will be held in the other Mineral County
communities: Alberton, St. Regis, West End
–Chamber By-Laws are outdated and need to be rewritten. A committee will
be set up at a later date.
–Patti Curtain, Mineral County Sheriff’s Office, asked that anyone in need
of workers to do community service work, to call her, 503-936-0404.

Highlights of March 15 Chamber Meeting
–Discussion on insurance for Superior CAR SHOW
–Phil Edholm – update on LOOKOUT SKI AREA EXPANSION
–Date is set for Aug. 18 Superior Airport FLY-IN
–Sign near hospital: a proposal for redo has been received, options were discussed and will be further explored
–Mineral County will be represented at a booth at TRAVEL EXPO at Southgate Mall on March 17
–Membership notice was sent to businesses still to RENEW their CHAMBER MEMBERSHIP
–Kenneth J. Ault is building a 3-plex in St. Regis and is looking for sub-contractors: call 721-2458, if interested.

The next meeting of the Mineral County Chamber is March 15 at 7:00 pm in Supeior.
Featured Speaker: Phil Edholm from Lookout Pass. He’ll be speaking about the planned expansion of Lookout Pass Ski Area and the extension of the Hiawatha Bike Trail into Mineral County. Should be fascinating !
Come join us March 15, the 3rd Thursday, at 7:00 pm at the Chamber Offices. We help shape the business environment for our communities to the benefit of all who live and recreate here in Mineral County MT.

The attractions of Mineral County – our vistas and recreational opportunities — will be featured at Southgate Mall TRAVEL EXPO on Saturday, March 17th. The Mineral County Chamber of Commerce and Mineral County non-profit organizations are sponsoring a booth at this event!

Mineral County Montana Attractions Exposed in Missoula March 17
Mineral County Chamber/Community member Glenn Koepke is leading this project and is gathering informational material. We also need volunteers to help staff the booth during the day – 10:00 am -6:00 pm. If you can help out with this, please contact Glenn directly at (406) 649-2692 ‘ email: grkforester@gmail.com
Thousands of people will be wandering through Southgate Mall on that day and we feel that this a good opportunity to let others know what we have to offer. We’re hoping to get information/representation from all our Mineral County communities.

–Tawnya Brummett, Superior District Forest Ranger spoke on the progress of the “Route of the Olympian” trail
–Golf Tournament – plans for 2012 Chamber Golf Tournament will be underway soon
–YELLOW PAGES Business Directory – discussion of yearly or bi-yearly printing
–’Welcome’ sign near hospital – Nolan Webber is continuing to investigate the logistics of replacing the sign
–Non-profit Chamber members will be contacted by Patti Curtin or Leona Crichton, encouraging them to fill out Chamber application form
–Patti Curtin will act as liason with the Visitors Bureau in Missoula

With your HELP, the WELCOME SIGN TO SUPERIOR WILL GET A FACE-LIFT ! The Mineral County Chamber has decided to take on the project of redoing/replacing the old ‘Welcome to Superior’ highway sign by the hospital after numerous expressions of concern from county residents. The Chamber’s Vice President Nolan Webber is chairing this project and is asking for community volunteers to help in a new design. The SBA kicked off its 2012 e200/Emerging Leaders executive-level training initiative in 27 cities and communities, including Helena, Montana. Since 2008 the e200/Emerging Leaders initiative has helped nearly 1,000 promising small business owners in underserved communities across the country sustain and grow their businesses, providing training they use to succeed and create jobs.

Featured Speaker: Forest Ranger *Tawnya Brummet* of the Superior District Forest, Montana. Topics include the Route of the Olympian and other current Forest Service projects.
Business meeting will include committee reports, membership report, discussion of redoing sign by the hospital.

–Committees Reports:
FLY-IN : Mary Jo Berry, chairperson – plans for 2012 fly-in will begin in Feb.
GOLF TOURNAMENT : Mike Dodd will be chairperson for 2012 Chamber Golf Tournament.
RIVER TRAIL Project : Judy Stang is still working on this project.
OFFICE Volunteers : Mary Jo Berry is seeking volunteers to staff the office,
particularly in the summer months. Volunteers will also be needed to help install sign in front of office.
COUNTY CLEAN-UP : Mary Jo Berry is looking into logistics of this project.
–Publicity:
Highway sign near the hospital needs to be replaced. Nolan Webber will chair this project and will seek volunteers for artistic ideas.
–Steve Carty, Mineral Community Hospital CEO, was unavailable due to meeting being rescheduled; will speak at a later meeting.
