November Chamber of Commerce Meeting Highlights / by David Lawrence

WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON AT THE MINERAL COUNTY CHAMBER ?  Here are the Highlights of November 21 Chamber meeting:

--Kristi Scott, Outreach & Enrollment Specialist at Mineral Regional Health Center gave a brief informative overview of the Affordable Care Act and the various plans & options. She also emphasized her role as a community 'go-to' person for anyone having questions or needing help in signing up and strongly encouraged people to contact her: 822-7134, For small businesses wanting information on SHOP (small business tax credit), Kristi has names & number of who to call. Another great service that Mineral Regional Heath Center provides is a sliding fee scale for patients and also has a case manager on staff who can provide information on various community help services.

--Chamber Office, open M & W 12:00-4:00, staffed by volunteers. Anyone interested in volunteering as a regular or substitute, please call Anita 649-1304. For reserving the office for meetings, functions, etc. call Mary Jo 822-2213.

--Winterfest - in lieu of Winterfest, it was decided to have an Open House at the Chamber Office after the next regular meeting scheduled for Thursday, December 19, with goodies, refreshments, and a bonfire in the parking lot. If businesses would like to give a promotional item to be used as a door prize, please contact Mary Jo 822-2213.

--Wish trees are located at various businesses: This n' That, Wells Fargo, Westgate Hardware, Mineral Pharmacy, Town Pump, St. Regis Travel Center, Alberton Senior Center. For more information, call Leona Crichton, 822-4356,

--Car Show - Mike & Jackie Perotti have agreed to chair 2014 Old Schoolhouse Rock Car Show, June 7.

--STAC report - Office hours for Superior Technical Assistance Committee will be Tuesdays 12:00-2:00. STAC has information regarding the EPA Superfund cleanup.

--2014 Officers - Election to be held at the December 19 meeting.

They have both expressed interest in the positions but, due to personal circumstances, will not be able to commit until after the first of the year. If there is anyone willing and able to serve in either of those positions for 2014, please call Anita 649-1304. If not, those two names will be on the ballet and we will optimistically hope that they will be able to serve. The offices of Secretary & Treasurer are appointed positions.

--Chamber website, --Community members are invited to submit pictures for the slideshow on the homepage and Chamber businesses are invited to put a small ad on their picture for $10. Pictures need to landscape-oriented, 940 pixels x 350 pixels.
